PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Stainless steel needle strips for bird control, complete with mounting clips and hardware.
1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
B. Product Data: Manufacturer's descriptive product information, including installation instructions.
NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if color matching to the installation surface is not required. Colored powder coating, Colorcoat(tm), is an option to stainless steel.
C. Sample for Color Matching: A piece of the finished installation surface or a paint chip matching the surface color, not less than 2 inches (50 mm) square.
D. Verification Samples: Actual strips of specified models, not less than 6 inches (150 mm) long.
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Installers: Completely familiar with installation of products similar to those required for this project.
1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store and handle materials to avoid damage to products and injury to installers.

2.2 BIRD CONTROL STRIPS
A. Strips: Provide architectural bird control in the form of flexible needle strips made of Type 316 stainless steel, and as follows:
NOTE ** Delete all but one of the following three paragraphs describing Nixalite models. Where more than one type is required, indicate models on drawings.
NOTE ** Model S is used for small birds, swallows, pigeons, and seagulls.
NOTE ** Model L is used for pigeons and seagulls.
NOTE ** Model N is used for pigeons, mud swallows, vultures, and other large birds.
1. Nixalite Model S, 4 inches (102 mm) wide by 3-3/4 inches (95 mm) high, 120 needles per 12 inches (305 mm).
2. Nixalite Model L, 4 inches (102 mm) wide by 3-3/4 inches (95 mm) high, 120 needles per 12 inches (305 mm).
3. Nixalite Model N, 4 inches (102 mm) wide by 3-3/4 inches (95 mm) high, 120 needles per 12 inches (305 mm).
NOTE ** The following two paragraphs cover special applications; delete if not required.
NOTE ** Model H is a half-row model used for ledges less than 2 inches (51 mm) in depth and in conjunction with Models S, L, and N to achieve proper spacing.
NOTE ** Model W is a wall-mounted type for vertical and sloped surfaces.
4. Narrow Ledges and Where Indicated: Nixalite Model H, 2 inches (51 mm) wide by 3-3/4 inches (95 mm) high, 60 needles per 12 inches (305 mm).
5. Wall Mounting: Nixalite Model W, 3 inches (76 mm) wide by 5-1/2 inches (140 mm) high, 120 needles per 12 inches (305 mm).
NOTE ** Delete one of the following two paragraphs.
NOTE ** If stainless steel finish was specified above delete the following color option. The manufacturer will match a sample of the installation surface color as closely as possible. If this option is used, be sure to include the submission of the color sample in PART 1 under Submittals.
8. Color: Custom color to match installation surface.
B. Mounting System: Stainless steel mounting clips and hardware as recommended by manufacturer.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that installation surfaces are ready to receive architectural bird control. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Clean installation surfaces thoroughly. Remove bird droppings and related bird refuse. Remove overhanging foliage.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Install architectural bird control in accordance with manufacturer's printed instructions.
B. Cover entire depth of surfaces indicated, cutting strips where necessary to fit strips to the installation surface properly. Make strips follow curves and contours closely.
C. Install at spacings specified in manufacturer's instructions, for uniform appearance and without end-to-end gaps.
D. Inspect finished installation and make adjustments as necessary.
3.4 CLEANING
A. Remove debris and waste materials from project site.
